Deville's Pad
This was our largest project to date: to convert a semi-demolished karaoke club in an awkward space within a rundown building.
We needed to achieve several goals to make the space viable which took a lot of planning and consultation. To add some functionality and dynamism to the space we created levels by adding a stage, raised booths and a sunken sprung dance floor. To break up the large unusual area different décor schemes were used within the one space. An outdoor smoking area also needed to be created.
A large plush brightly lit foyer area is used as a gift shop, cloak room and meeting area, before the client proceeds into a dark “ghost train” with animated speaking gargoyles. Ornate mansion doors swing open bringing the customer into the American “Devilles Diner” area from which the whole vista of the ‘Las Vegas goes to Hell’ themed space can be viewed.
We injected the project with a lot of kitsch fun. 30,000 jewels were embedded in the devil girl statues and bar back; 30 kg of glitter was carefully sprayed onto the constructed cave; sparkly vinyl was used as flooring and upholstery fabric; a suave ‘Dean Martin’ Devil was used as the logo.
The company 'Living Iron' was commissioned to provide all the wrought ironwork: the balustrades, custom lighting, fencing, the gogo cages and furniture, laser cut from Wonderbar designs then rolled into shape. This provided us with a very durable and solid base to the remainder of the decorative work.
Cement and plaster cave areas were built incorporating salvaged rock and crystals for realism. Fibreglass rocking was backed with LED lighting to provide the glowing lava effects around the dance floor and in the courtyard. A smoking mock volcano arises from the dance floor with lava paint effects. The ceiling was sprayed with an acoustic dampening plaster and fibre mix in uneven thicknesses, and then dry-brushed to resemble lava rock.
The exterior area was inspired by Pompeii: a lava flow threatening to engulf a limestone ruin. A large fireplace provides a visual focus as well as much needed winter warmth.
Famed low-brow artists Derek Yanniger and Vince Ray were commissioned to provide artwork for the venue, menu and accoutrements. The food and cocktails have a Las Vegas/Hollywood theme that compliments the décor well. Devilles Pad is entering its third successful year.

Head back in time to this Swinging-60s-themed pad and imagine the Flintstones-meet-The-Devil with live music and go-go dancers ‘the Sataniques’ every night. Offering only high quality fresh ingredients in all their drinks, and not admitting any riff raff, ‘Devilles’ is a great place to relax and get into character. Dressing in theme is commonplace and dressing right up is a must.![]()

When it comes to dining venues, there are interiors that make you feel relaxed and there are others that quite simply blow you away. Deville’s Pad falls into a category all of its own. There’s no other way to say it: Deville’s Pad is like descending to the fiery pits of hell. The only difference is, you don’t need to be a sinner to enter! Decked out like a kitsch Las Vegas supper club, the interior looks like a volcano has erupted, spewing molten lava everywhere. Couple that with red leather booths and very effective lighting, and you have a venue like no other in Perth – maybe even Australia.
Although it’s predominately a late-night bar, don’t dismiss this place when it comes to food. A distinct American-themed menu means you can expect dishes hailing from all over the US, including flavours from the likes of New Mexico, Manhatten and New Orleans. When you do visit Deville’s Pad, be sure to wear your dancing shoes as there’s an irresistible dancefloor complete with a smouldering volcano for you to worship. Add a few magicians and fire breathers and you have a venue you’re not likely to forget in a hurry!![]()

If anyone knows what to do with 30kg of glitter it’s bar designer Josh Collins. The walls of his new venture - Devilles Pad are adorned with the stuff. Devilles is all about attention to detail and as designer of the Hula Bula bar, Collins knows his stuff."
